History was made at Chatsworth Park last week when Buxton Cricket Club Women’s 1st team (Buxton has 5 women’s teams) played against a Chatsworth Women’s XI. With a fabulous backdrop for an evening match and a lovely team to play, the match result was always going to come second, which Buxton won.
Some tight fielding and accurate bowling from Buxton led to Chatsworth being 5 runs for 5 wickets after just 5 overs. The Chatsworth team was all bowled out before the 20 overs were used, but in the spirit of the match, batters came back on to use up the overs and reached a score of 57 runs.Buxton batted well, with several retirements, so most of the team had the chance to bat and reached a score of 93 runs after 20 overs. Accurate bowling from Chatsworth however did claim 5 wickets.
Last Saturday, recorded three wins out of four for the senior teams with two of the teams top of their leagues. The 1st losing again against bottom team Elvaston Cricket Club being the only defeat.

Elvaston got off to a bit of a flying start, being 50/1 in the ninth over of the day, Eddy Donnelly getting the first breakthrough, but a mini collapse of 3 wickets for 10 runs thanks to tight bowling and good fielding saw the hosts slip to 66/4.The tight bowling continued and after another partnership built, Buxton got the breakthrough and the big wicket of the set batsman. Wickets continued to fall and were shared around, Fran Slater (2/34) and Andy Slater (2/27) the two standards as Buxton bowled Elvaston out for 186.
Some tight bowling up front from the hosts had Buxton fall to 34/3 and then 53/4 before a solid partnership between Harry Griffin and young Alfie Bunting started to steady the ship taking Buxton to 88/4. But a late collapse which included a hat trick, saw Buxton bowled out for just 94, with the only score of substance coming from Harry Griffin with a very good 41.
