Buxton Cricket Club. Proposed Pavilion Extension.
A club and community partnership
Buxton Cricket Club, The Park, is a famous and magnificent historic ground and was the highest first-class ground in the country at just over 1,000 feet. It will be remembered forever though for the events of June 1975, when snow stopped play in the county championship game against Lancashire.
The Club has a rich, varied history, not least in the number of leagues in which it has played. It was founded in 1853 and is the oldest sports club in the town. Indeed, cricketers founded the football club in 1877 when club members participated in a friendly match.
Fast forward to 2025 with five senior teams, five women’s teams, a thriving junior section, over 250 members and a pavilion not fit for purpose for such a diverse and large club.
The current pavilion is not fit for purpose for such a diverse and large club. Our priority as we approach our 175th anniversary, is to extend and improve the pavilion for the benefit of the club with:
-
Larger changing rooms with integrated showers and toilets. (featured heavily in the member survey).
-
An alternative changing area - ECB requirement.
-
A larger social area for club events.
-
Better access for those with disabilities.
-
A dedicated Scorers’ area, fully equipped to modern requirements.
-
More storage for cricket and grounds equipment.
-
Re-ordered and improved kitchen and bar facilities.
-
A terrace to socialise, enjoy the cricket and the wonderful views.
Why do we need a pavilion extension?
The pavilion extension will provide a much needed, flexible and large social space in Buxton town centre for daytime or evening hire and will help to bring the club and community together better.

We anticipate the pavilion extension will be suitable for a wide variety of uses, especially when combined with the vast open playing space. For example:
-
Day nursery.
-
School holiday club.
-
Business meetings.
-
Training courses.
-
Small weddings.
-
Birthday parties.
-
Social club events.
How will the community benefit from the pavilion extension?
How much is the pavilion extension going to cost?
-
Builders have estimated approx £700,000 to a full fix stage.
-
The aim is for the building work to be underway by 2027.
We will be applying for grants but we need your generosity. We aim to offset some costs by doing some work ourselves. We also need support in kind, for example with building materials, plumbing, windows, electrics, fixtures, fittings, flooring and furniture.
How you can help us achieve our vision
Our vision through the pavilion extension is to create a space that is fit for purpose to serve both the cricket club and the wider community and that it will help bring the two together better.
-
One off donation or multiples of donations over a set time period.
-
Sponsorship of certain areas, such as the new social area, the scorebox or new viewing terrace.
-
Every donator will be recognised on a benefactor board in the pavilion.
